Math 8L-Reviewed percent increase, volume and PEDMAS with fractions today. Science 8LToday we reviewed and practiced our science literacy.  Students were shown several graphs and tables.   They were asked to :identify trends in the data, identify descrepencies in the data, suggest reasons for descrepencies, read data to answer questionsextrapolate to predict data outside of recorded areasintrapolate to estimade data between two know data points. Portfolios of marked work has been given to students to take home and show parents.  Students should be using this to study for the assessments in Math and science.   They are do back at school on Wednesday.

Math 8L-Today we did a genral review. Science 8E and 8L-8E today we reviewed data tables and graphs.   How to read a trend.  How to etrapolate the data.   How to intrapolate values.-Labs and unit test were passed back.

Math 8L-Today we did some general review and discussed how to study for a test. Science 8-Today we discussed how scientist can estimate data from graphs by intrapolating and extrapolating.  We also reviewed how to draw conclusions from the data in given in a graph.-Next class we will look at tables to practice reading information from them.  We will practice drawing conclusions from data in a table.-Early immersion students started a group task of writing the procedure for a simple task.   I can't wait to see the fun as we exchange and act out the procedures.   It should be a fun learning experience.

Math 8L-Quiz early next week on PEDMAS-Today we worked on surgace area.  page 186 Q6 is for homework.-Algebra worksheet due Tuesday Science 8-Test next week on optics.-District end of year assessment is June 1st-notes below-study guide given.

Math 8L1-We started our new unit on geometry.   We learnt new vocabulary.   -We reviewed the grade 7 geometry unit from last year.   Students have a worksheet to complete.  Finding area of triangles, rectangles and circles.  Students also need to be able to find the circumference of a circle (same thing as the perimeter of a circle).-Tomorrow we will work  finding the surface area of 3D objects. Math 8L2-We looked at the nets for 3D objects.    We discussed how this material could be asked on an assessment.-We began to work on questions in the book and will finish them in class tomorrow.-notes posted below. Science 8E2 and 8E1-We finished our refraction lab write up.  We discussed how conclusions should mention the observations of the experiment.  Conclusions should also include the theory in the lab.  Key scientific terms should be used in the conclusion.-We also learnt how to tell which medium is the most dense from refraction diagrams.  See notes below.   Students need a pencil and math set for each class.-District assessment will start June 1st.

First instalment of money for Mount A trip is now past due.   (65$) Math 8L1-Students missed class due to the play.-Worksheet is due tomorrow on PEDMAS Math 8L2-Review sheet from grade 7 geometry unit on finding the air of a rectangle, triangle and circle are due Tuesday. Science 8L1-Today students worked on their lab write ups.   This should be passed in. Science 8E2-Students had time to finish their write ups.   This should be passed in.-Students took notes on refraction and learned how to determine the most dense medium from looking at the ray diagrams.-Drama students were given the work that they missed.

First instalment for the Mount Alison trip will be due Monday ($65).    Math 8L1-PEDMAS assignment due Monday-Today we worked on a group puzzle of PEDMASS and followed it with an individual assignment that will be due Tuesday Math 8L2-We started our new geometry unit today by learning some key vocabulary.  We had fun building some 3-d objects from their nets (les dévelopments).-Work sheet passed out but not due until Tuesday.  This worksheet reviews the grade 7 material of finding the area of a square, triangle and circle.-notes posted below. Science 8-Today we investigated refraction.   We will share our findings and write our conclusion next class.

Math 8L1-We did not have a class today due to the play Math 8L2-We worked in groups on a PEDMAS puzzel.  Once completed students were given the assignment.  This is due tomorrow and I will be marking it. Science 8L2-First class we had a chance to see some lenses.   We also learnt how to draw diagrams for refractions.    Notes are below.-Second class we were in the science lab investigating refraction of light in air and water.   Students worked on the skills of reformulating a question and writing a hypothesis.   Next class we will finish the investigation by sharing and writing our conclusions.  We will also do an extention and look at how liquids with different densities affects the image.  (Thank you to the group who suggested it.)
