Homework May 6th

Math 8L1 and 8L2-Today we reviewed Algebra (PR2).-We continued to work on multiplying and dividing fractions, (N6). We added it to what we learnt last year (adding and subtracting fractions). PEDMAS.-Notes are posted below.-Homework was to do question 29 from page 161.-Tomorrow an assignment on PEDMAS involving fractions will be passed out. Science 8L1-Today we had the chance to hold some lenses. We discussed the difference between concave and convex lenses. We also discussed how the density of the new medium will affect the path of the light. It was fun to put the knowledge we learned around density from our last unit to good use.-We also spent some time talking about the image formed by a reflection. We looked at some examples of how to draw the image.-Notes are posted below.-We will be in the lab Friday. Science 8L2-Today we were introduced to the concepts of reflection and refraction. Some good examples were given from students today of reflections and refractions in the real world. Great work! -Notes posted below.

Homework May 5th

Science 8E-Today we worked at building our French vocabulary around light. We looked at the path light takes as it reflects and as it refracts.-A handout was given that we will work on over the next few classes as we develop our understanding. Drama students can get the handout from me when they return. Math 8L-Today we continued to work on PEDMAS involving fractions. -Homework is question 9 and 10-8L1 test passed back to be signed. Math extra help-Today during student enhancement we worked on our corrections from the unit test. Models for multiplying fractions were revisited. Examples attached below.

Homework May 4th

Science 8-Reminder that students will need a math set (ruller and protractor) and a pencil for science class each day in our new unit.-Notes posted below- 8E1 and 8E2 finish question 1 and 6 on page 232-8L1 Handout given that we will work on over the next few classes as we develop our understanding of how light travels. Drama students can collect this from me when you return. Math 8L-Today we worked on section 3.9 of the text. We looked at putting all the opperations on fraction together. This makes use of what we learned in grade 7 (adding and subtracting fractions) and what we learned last unit (multiplying and dividing fractions).-Students are to complete Q 4, 6 and 7 for next class. We will go over any difficult questions together.-notes below.

Homework for April 28th

Please join us at Gojis from 6 to 9 pm tonight for our class trip Fundraiser. Math 8L-test tomorrow for multiplying and dividing fractions. We did a practice test today in class. It is posted on the class website. Science 8L2-We read from chapter 7 and and copied some notes on new terms. -Next class we will be in the lab to invertigate how light refracts.

Science 8L-Test will be passed back tomorrow.-Our new unit is on optics. Notes are below.-Read pages 216, 217, 222-224 to help build french vocabulary on the subject matter so that we can start having some conversations and doing some activities in French.

Homework April 24th

Science 8-Students have finished their test. They will be marked and passed back early next week. (Once students who were absent write.)-Our next unit will be on optics. Math 8L-8L1 corrected their review assignment today. _8L2 review assignment is due Monday-Test on N6 Multiplying and dividing fractions will be Wednesday of next week.

Homework

Math 8L-We reviewed adding fractions today. The area model was re-explainned. Students homework was to look at Q 10 again and make sure their area models are correctly drawn. -Notes posted below. Homework April 17th

Math 8L-Students had a substitute today and worked on section 3.4 of their text. Students solved multiplication of fractions by forming improper factions. Science 8-Test end of next week. Study guide has been handed out.
