Math 8 E1 ·         Récapitation 1 is due tomorrow. ·         Today we looked at > to see how it can help us multiply integers.  This method uses a rectangle and student decompose the larger numbers into numbers that are easier to multiply.  Notes are posted below. Science 8L ·         We learnt about the history of microscopes and how cells were discovered.  We also reviewed the characteristics of living organisms.  We will have a short quiz to check for understanding at the start of next class. ·         Next week we will begin to work with our microscopes in the lab. Science 7E1 ·         We learned some new terms today to help us with our ecosystem projects. ·         Last half of class was spent doing research. ·         Homework: continue the research on your animal at home.

Science 8L ·         We reviewed the characteristics of living organisms. ·         Today we did some guided reading from our text to build our science literacy skills.  Students have two worksheets to complete to check understanding. ·         We took some time today to make a simple magnifying glass.   We will start to work with optical microscopes in the near future. ·         Notes and handouts attached below Math 8E1 ·         Today we started our unit 2.   We modelled using “des jetons” how to multiply integers. ·         A review sheet is for homework to review adding and subtracting integers.  This is grade 7 material.   We will go over all these questions in class tomorrow.   This will allow us to tailor the review to the questions students have trouble with in the homework. ·         Our first assignment will be due Friday.   “Récapitation 1” has been handed out.  Students can work on this assignment during class and during student enhancement.  Extra help will be day 3. ·         Class notes posted below Science 7E1 and 7E2 ·         Students copied notes of new terms that they will use in their project. ·         We went over the learning goals of our ecosystem project. ·         Students had time to brainstorm a list of things they know about their animal and a list of things they will look up tomorrow. ·         We are in the computer lab next class to work on the project. ·         Students should start to bring their box and materials to class. ·         Homework: review notes and bring materials to class. Science 8E1 ·         We watched a video about how to investigate to see if an object is living. ·         We wrote notes on the characteristics of living organisms. ·         Students learnt how to use Venn Diagrams to compare two objects and determine if they are living. ·         Homework: go over notes and write a concluding statement for your Venn diagram.

Math 8E1 ·         Today we had a community fair in the gym so we did not have class. Science 7L ·         Today we went over class rules and expectations.  Students are bringing home a paper to be signed by parents. ·         Discover your book activity is due for next class. Science 8E2 ·         We did a “discover our book” activity.   Please have your book covered for next week. ·         We took notes on the characteristics of living organisms.   Please review these as we will have a quiz on it next week. Science 8L ·         We discussed and took notes on the characteristics of living organisms.  Please study this as we will have a quiz next week.  Notes are posted below for students who were absent.  Click on the link to print off the notes. ·         Homework is to place the words in the correct part of the diagram and make a concluding statement. (see last slide of notes)

Welcome Red Team!!!!! 8L-Please sign and return forms.-In science today we did an activity to learn how to use our text book as a resource.  We also starting to talk about what determines if an object is living or non-living.    We will discuss this further next class. Science 7E1-Today we went over the rules for our class.   We did a discover the book activity to better learn how we can use our science book as a resource this year.-Students are to return the signed information sheet  for next class.-Students will be working on an ecosystem project over the next three weeks.   Students may work individually or in groups of 2 or 3.   Each group needs one shoe box.   Next class we will learn some new vocabulary and students will start to brainstorm and apply the new terms to their chosen animal.   More detailed information on the project will follow.
