Science Fair

This week students will have one class in the computer lab to research their project topic. Students should take time to develop their scientific question, hypothesis and procedure. Students will need to identify their variables. This planning phase should be done by the end of next week (January 23rd). We will begin to present our projects to the class on February 16th and will have all projects presented before the March break. The school competition will be after March break. A rubric of how projects will be marked will be posted on the class website before the end of the week. We are waiting for it to be sent from district office. I am looking forward to seeing all the fabulous projects the students will be developing over the next month.

Homework January 8th

Math 8L -Assignment 5.1 is due tomorrow. -Quiz on 5.1 Monday Science 8 -All lab sheets from labs done before Christmas should now be passed in. -We continue to finish up our skills assessment in class. -Our next unit is on fluids.

Homework January 6th

Science 8 -Students will be finishing their skills assessment this week. -New unit is on fluids Science 8L2 -Read pages 110 to 116 in science text. Math 8L -New unit is chapter 5 on percentages -Notes below -Homework is Q 3 and 6.

Homework Dec 15th

Math - District Benchmark test is tomorrow. No calculators. Students must use a pencil and show there work. Today we spent some time organising our notes and modeling how to review and study for the test. Students should be completing this review process at home tonight. Science 8 -Lab sheets are now due. -This week students will be doing a skill assessment in class. POT LUCK ON WEDNESDAY

Homework Dec 12th

Due to storm their is several changes to the schedual for next week. -Tuesday 1st and 2nd period will be the district math benchmark test. (please use past test and assignments to review) -Potluck remains Wednesday dec 17th 1st period. -MADD presentation Wednesday Decembre 17th pm -Drama presentation Thursday December 18th pm -Talent show Friday December 19th pm Science 8 will have an in-class open book skills test/assignment next week. This is a test where students may use their duotang, notes and textbook. The test will review all we have learned this year but will focuss more on skills. How to write a testable question, hypothesis, procedure ect.... For example, situations are given and students are asked to write a testable question or a hypothesis for the situation. This is not a test to evaluated memorization of notes and content. Homework is to organize notes and locker. 8L1 Thursday 8L2 Tuesday and Wednesday (students will choses which day today) 8E1 Wednesday 8E2 Thursday after drama presentation with extra time Friday morning if needed.

District math assessment

Mrs. Sullivan has confirmed that the district math assessment will not be written tomorrow (Friday). It is being postponed to Monday or Tuesday due to the storm. It will be announced at school once the new date is confirmed.

Homework Thursday

Math 8L -Students completed order of operation review -Students were given the data management review. -District math test will be December 12th with a snow date of December 15th. This will count as a test to wards the term two mark. Science 8 -Lab proposal for yeast lab two should be passed in. (one copy for each group).
