The field trip for 7L1 and 7L2 to the maple sugar shack on that was planned for Tuesday (April 1st) will not take place today due to school closures because of weather.  However, if you need another copy of the permission slip it was posted in the homework a few days back.   Cost 5$ for the meal and taffy. When we do go, we will be outside most of the day (9am to 1pm) so please dress warm.  We will be walking through the woods so students should wear winter boots. http://hms.nbed.nb.ca/teacher/note/red-7-field-trip-form

Math 7-Continue working on your mental math problems. We have a quiz on Friday on all the different ways to solve algebraic equations. Here are two little videos in French showing two solution methods, systematic attempts and algebra: http://www.showme.com/sh/?h=3jIJ6Tw and http://www.showme.com/sh/?h=qQkXtVA. Science 8L-Finish your "Convection de nouveau" lab sheet.

Math 7-We worked on algebra questions as well as started some word problems. Homework is on page 238 question #1. Science 7-Today we looked at how heat can be transfered among particles. No homework- enjoy the dance. Science 8L-Today we worked on creating a lab experience. The first page of the labsheet is to be completed by next class. Reminder to grade 7 students: on Monday please bring your signed permission form and 5$ for the sugar shack field trip.

Grade 7 Math-Attached below are the corrections for you worksheets so you can self-correct. Please ask questions in class tomorrow about any questions you may have struggled with. For any 8L students who will miss the March 28th class: Use the video (link below) provided to assist in the completion of the worksheet we started last class. Today's goal is to finish creating your own experiment. We will also look at making a hypothesis for an upcoming lab on "capacité thermique" (lab sheet attached below). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SciEeE5p23Q

Science 8E1/2-Today we did a lab to see how quickly and how much earth, air and water gain or lose heat. For homework we want students to come up with ideas, using what they saw happen in the lab, about how the sun's energy heats the earth, air  and water on our planet. Does each substance get heated at the same rate? Why? Science 7L1-Today we learnt what the different parts of the thermometer are, how the liquid particle inside react when they are cold and hot, and how to properly take a thermometer reading. Each student was tested individually and was able to accurately measure the temperature of a sample of liquid. For homework please finish the thermometer worksheet (also available as a PDF online). Math 7L1-Today we started doing a weekly Monday quiz to practice mental math problems. Students will be bringing home a sheet for parents to quiz them twice weekly and sign off when completed. They will be asked to bring this sheet to class every Monday with their work attached. We also reviewed some common mistakes sudents make when using the algebra tiles or balance models to represent algebraic equations. If their worksheets 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3 are not complete, please finish them.

Handouts have been given to students to help them review their mental math strategies at home with their parents.  Students are asked to do this twice a week.  Each Monday, we will check the table to see that it has been completed.  Every Monday we will also have a mental math quiz in class.    I will post from time to time some sample test (with answers) that parents can use with their child.Sample questions: Halving and doubling 80 x 25 = 2000200 x 15 = 3000140 x 35 = 4900320 x 25 = 800020 x 75 = 1500 Rounding off a subtraction question500-197= 303 400-192=208 900-399=501 800-196=604 300-198=102 Grouping  multiplication numbers 5 x 13 x 20 = 1300 4 x 15 x 25 = 1500 2 x 24 x 50 = 2400 20 x 75 x 5 = 7500 25 x 81 x 4 = 8100  Dividing by ½ or 0.5 50 ÷ ½ = 100160 ÷ 0.5 = 320 1000 ÷ ½ = 2000 35 ÷ 0.5 = 70 700 ÷ ½ = 1400

Science 8 E1/E2- Today we formally learnt about convection and brainstormed new, but related, scientific questions to continue exploring convection. Students should finish their hypothesis and 1 vocabulary word on their definition worksheet.   Science 7L2- No homework.  Check out this really cool online article about the hottest temperature conceivable (optional): http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/physics/absolute-hot.html. This stemmed from a great question one of our students had in class and it turns out to be a burning question physisists are currently researching.   Math 7- Students should have their  worksheets "Leçon 6.1: Résoudre des équations" AND "Leçon 6.3: Résoudre des équations qui comportent des nombres entiers" completed for tomorrow.

Science 7L1: Questions 1-7 on the temperature and thermometer worksheet should be completed. This worksheet is available online as a document you can print.   Science 7L2: The temperature and thermometer worksheet is due next class for those who have not already given it in.   Science 8: Please complete your convection lab sheet if you have not given it in.

Math 7- Today the class worked on a problem sheet. This sheet is to be completed as homework. Science 8L-Today we worked on building vocabulary for our Waves, Tides and Currents unit. We also began brainstorming questions we want to know the answers to so that we can design our own experiment. Science 7L-We are learning the parts of the thermometer as well as how it works. We did a simulation where students acted as particles inside the thermometer as the temperature rose. For homework students are to finish quesions 1-7 on the worksheet- additional copies can be obtained from the teacher tomorrow in class. Science 8E2-We had some important discussions about the movement of water particles and their effect on climates. We watched a video on ocean currents on the French Brain Pop website and conducted a related experiment in class. The lab sheet is to be finished as homework.

Today our grade 7 students started a cross-curricular project with our guest speaker Mr Bernard.  As a result their is no homework for math and science.  We learned a lot about the Acadian culture today.   This project will continue for 1 week.  The students will be producing some wood carvings.   Photos to follow! Science 8E2-Students started our new unit on Water Systems.  Mme. Parker lead the students through some vocabulary activities to access prior knowledge.  We will be in the lab next class. Science 8E1-We were in the lab for an investigation today.  Students are to complete the lab sheet for nect class.  We revisited the proper way to write hypothesis statements.
