Français 6E (Early immersion)

    • Read each night, they will choose 1 or 2 books and read the same ones each night for 1 week, then they will change their books each week. It would be best practice to have them read out loud to someone. ***** I have started running records ( which is to evaluate their reading level) in French, once their reading level is established student's should be reading books only at their level. Running Records will be done 1-2 times per term, to identify the areas in which they need to work on with their reading and to see if their reading level has improved over each term.
    • Get quiz #1 spelling signed, and rewrite the words they got wrong 3 times.
    • Spelling Quiz #2 Monday October 17th ( study words and work on completing 1 sentence for each spelling word). Sentences are due on Monday October 17th ( they have a week to complete this).

Français 6L (late immersion)

  • I have evaluated each student orally with their numbers 1-20, 20-50, 50-70 and 70-100. If they didn't know there numbers automatically without making any mistakes, they should be reviewing and practicing them at home. The can go on YouTube and look up " chiffre en français" or " apprendred les chiffres en français" and there are all kinds of short video clips which can help them with learning their numbers. 
  • Get Spelling Quiz #1 &2 signed, rewrite the words they got wrong 3 times. 
  • Spelling Quiz #3- Study words, quiz is next Monday October 17th, 2016.

    • Many students didn't have their booklets completed today, they received 1 month to complete this assignment. If booklet was incomplete they have lost -10% on their final mark and were in detention today at lunch to woork on their assignment.

    • They have received their first booklet of the year " La rentrée", the completed booklet is due Tuesday October 11th. This booklet is not meant to be done all in one day/evening. Students have been explained they should work on it 10-15 minutes each night as a review of vocabulary words. Each activity has been explained and a few examples have been done with them for their understanding. They are permitted to use their dictionary for any words they don't understand or ask the teacher for extra help.
    • Students were given 12 spelling words to study this week, they will have their first spelling quiz Tuesday October 11th. The students should be practising their words both orally and written. Students were given time in class to write 12 different sentences using the words from this week, if not completed their 12 sentences they must finish them for Wednesday October 5th.

  • All of the grade 6, 7 and 8 students on the Red Team ( French Immersion) will again be participating in the local radio station's Food Drive. We are asking students to please bring in non-perishable food donations to their homeroom teacher. During the afternoon of October 5th, we will walk the donations down and present them to the radio station. In previous years we have had a hugely successfuly campaign and we hope this year will be our biggest as it will be our last at HMS.

  • Tomorrow we are asking all students and staff to wear a orange t-shirt or sweater in support of the "Every Child Matters" campaign in rememberance of all the families affected by the Resedential Schools.
