On Thursday, November 19th all students are asked to wear a pink shirt of any kind.
This activity is to show our support by taking a stand against bullying. This is an international activity with schools and business in countries all around the world participating.
Bobby Cooper came up with the idea of an International Stand up to Bullying Day to help eliminate bullying, but an event that happened in Nova Scotia in 2007 started the pink shirt campaign.

The Orange Team is selling tickets on a Christmas Basket with all proceeds going towards their ski trip. The tickets are $1.00 each and the basket is filled with well over $100.00 in great items. The basket will be drawn for on December 16th and you can buy your tickets from any Grade 8 student on the Orange Team or from the teachers. Thank you in advance for your support!

If you received one last year you know, the Harkins Middle School Yearbook is jam-packed with color, photos and words that tell you a story about your Middle School experience. The cover contest for this year's yearbook is closing on November 24th. Remember, you could win a copy of the 2009-10 Yearbook with your design on the front. Your entry needs to be on 8 1/2 X 11 white paper and please use vibrant colors. You may preorder your HMS Yearbook through Mrs.
Harkins will hold a Remembrance Day cerermony at 9am on Tuesday, November 10th. Among other things during this ceremony, we will observe 2 minutes of silence to honor those who have sacrificed so much. Here is a portion of the Bilingual Readers Theatre that will be presented by the Purple Team, to introduce the 2 minutes of Silence: - Two minutes; an homage to those who have sacrificed so much. - Deux minutes; pour se souvenir de ceux qui sont sacrifié pour combattre l'oppression. - We bow our heads.- On incline la tête.
The Red Team students donated many items for the Operation Christmas Shoe Box for Soldiers, a program coordinated by Brenda Daigle at NBCC. This act of kindness will help many in need. Again, the students of Harkins Middle prove that "Harkins Cares".
Today we received some very important guests at our school: The Half-Pints Basketball Team. They came to spread both an important message... and also some pie on Mr. Hache's face! (see gallery). In addition, they demonstrated some of their stellar basketball skills. Students left both very informed and entertained. Bullying continues to be a very relevant and important issue in school and, as written on the back of our visitor's t-shirts: "Bullying is not kool, keep it out of our school".
