Every Wednesday, students, parents and community will have the opportunity to see a virtual presentation of announcements and events via this website. There will be two new 'junior reporters' every week, who will share news, views and facts about Harkins Middle School. Please see our first broadcast on the HMS mainpage http://hms.nbed.nb.ca/.

The WEB Leaders were spreading an important message on Friday afternoon on the Purple Team. They presented their Lesson # 2 entitled "Lighten Up the Load". They demonstrated, through activities and role play how 'heavy' being put down feels and how we can avoid making others feel this way. The lesson ended with this moral:
"It's so much nicer to receive positive comments from people than put downs. If we could lift people up everyday instead of putting down, school would be a GREAT place to be for everyone! "
Thank you WEB Leaders!

We are happy to announce that the annual Royal Canadian Legion Remembrance Day Contest chose two Harkins students as winners! Under the category of Junior Poem, grade 6 Blue Team student Andrea Bell claimed first prize and Arun Sharma, also on the Blue Team, claimed second. You may remember hearing their poems during our school's Remembrance Day Ceremony in November. Today, they were presented with a certificate and cheque by members of the local Legion. Way to go Andrea and Arun!
In November, we told you about Miss Miousse's grade 6 students who were participating in a Christmas charity program called GIFTS of MAGIC.
It was suggested that students approach a parent, a relative, or a friend who usually gives them a gift at Christmas, and ask them to instead, give the value money of the gift so we could, in return, send it to UNICEF to provide life-changing gifts to children around the world. Some students even volunteered to take money from their own savings!
The Harkins Middle School Drama Club, together with many other talented students, put together a phenomenal Christmas showcase on December 17th and 18th. Many students, teachers, parents and community members agreed that the show (of 15 skits and 13 acts of talent) was refreshingly entertaining and of course, very zany!
Happy Holidays to all! Best wishes for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday season. School starts back up again for students on Wednesday, January 6th, 2010. Cheers!
There will be two performances of HMS Drama Club's "A Zany Christmas Showcase of Skits and Talent." One performance will be 1:15pm on THURSDAY, DECEMBER 17th and the second performance will be FRIDAY, DECEMBER 18th now at 1:15pm. Sorry for the changes. We had to accord our schedules to skating and other events. Merry Christmas and hope to see you there!
