A Focus on Multiplication: 5 Minutes a Day http://hms.nbed.nb.ca/news/focus-multiplication-5-mins-dayPlease look for a take-home notice regarding multiplication facts to be sent this week.In our grade 6 FI Math classroom we have conquered 2s, 5s, 10s, doubles, 3s & 4s with general success. The 4-12 fact families, of course, will cause more difficulty. Skip-counting and using multiples are great strategies for multiplication, but they can sometimes hinder ‘flow’ when calculating and problem-solving multi-step questions found in middle school math and beyond. HMS teachers believe that it is important for students gain automaticity in multiplication facts at this stage in their math education.
