Students have been working on either a free choice writing piece, "If I had Three Wishes" writing piece or one from a list of prompts.  A rough and good copy are due this Friday.  We have done mini-lessons to help us with editing for the six traits of writing.  It is kept in their portfolios but you may see it this week if students don't finish in class time or student enhancement time.

Students of 8A and 8B will have a couple of extra days to work on their UDL projects.  Monday, Nov. 18th is the new due date.  Ample class time has been given so students should not have much (if any) work to do at home.  I have provided most supplies for models but students will have to bake/cook some of their projects at home (if they've chosen that option).  Just a reminder that Harkins is a nut free school.  I think the students have enjoyed this project!  I can't wait to see all of the finished products on Monday.

These Journals are all completed at school during Language Arts classes and can also be worked on during student enhancemnet time.  If students would like to bring them home to finish they certainly may but must have them returned by Nov. 12th as our blue portfolios/Journals will be marked at that time.  Any parent or guardian who wishes to take a look at what we have been working on in our writer's workshop(portfolio time) may do so at any time or can come in to parent teacher as well.
See attached the review for our chapter one quiz as well as the requirements for our notebooks for term one.

Both 8A and 8B's lab books will be marked on Nov. 8th.  They will contain the first 4 labs we have done as a class.  If a student is absent for a lab they are to write a note in that section stating the reason for the absence, or can ask to do the lab during a student enhancement class where I will help them with it.
This is a chapter one quiz and there will be a two review classes before hand.  Anything that students have missed will be covered and provided for them as long as they ask and check the Science bin at the back for handouts/assignments that they've missed.  A review sheet will be posted here in the days before the quiz for anyone who may be absent.
We have been working with the ideas trait in our writing workshops this term.  Students will be able to use their notebooks to complete a quiz on the Show Don't Tell, Five Senses and Add A writing techniques.  There will also be a question based on our Novel, "The Cage".
8A and 8B students have had the last three weeks to work on our novel study project on Ruth Minsky-Sender's, "The Cage".  They have had class time to complete the project while we have read orally.  Students can borrow a book for the week if they need extra time.
