The teams had 20 minutes, 20 sticks of spaghetti, 1 meter of tape, and 1 meter of yarn.   The challenge was to build the highest tower that could hold a marshmellow. Teams learned about collaboration, innovation, design and engineering.

During lunch on Friday, participants in this year's Science Club were able to successfully extract DNA from banana cells despite our difficulties with some of our materials.

Our first Science Club meeting of the year kicked off with an investigation of common household products to determine the pH of each product. You can make a homemade indicator from red cabbage juice that will instantly change colours based on the hydrogen content of various everyday chemicals.

The science club met in two groups to learn about polymers.  The glue contains a polymer called polyvinyl acetate resin.   Students changed the polymers  behaviour twice in this activity; Once when we added water and the second time when we added borax.   Adding the water was a physical change...
