Posted: June 28, 2011

Harkins Middle School’s Angel Hair Campaign would like to thank the following lovely ladies who had their ponytails snipped to donate to Angel Hair For Kids:  Lauren H; Robin D; Robyn S; Darrah C; Emily R; Mrs Mitchell.  Our goal this year was to raise some money and we wanted to send off as many ponytails as we could along with the cash.  We are happy to announce that we have raised $143 and 6 donations of hair.   We would like to give a special thank you to Dawn Chaisson and Mrs Breau for volunteering their talent, time and services.  We would also like to thank Elaine Rambaran for helping us organize.  THANK YOU!   Please see the corresponding photo gallery:  http://hms.nbed.nb.ca/gallery/angel-hair-2011 Remember to grow your hair out for next year’s assembly! Did you know?  As found at : ( http://www.acvf.ca/index.php/our-programs/angel-hair-for-kids/ ) This year, 10,000 Canadian children will lose their hair to Alopecia, Burns or Cancer chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Angel Hair has provided wig systems at no charge to over 150 kids Angel Hair is the only Canadian charity that provides this service nationally for kids 19 and under. During a time when children find themselves struggling with painful and difficult medical conditions, losing their hair can have a devastating effect on their self-esteem and confidence. Angel Hair for Kids provides human or synthetic hair wigs for children from financially disadvantaged families who have lost their hair as a result of the A,B,C's of hair loss: Alopecia, Burns and  Cancer chemotherapy and radiation treatments. To make a human hair wig requires 10-12 donations of untreated hair, as well as approximately $800.00 for materials and manufacturing to turn the hair into children’s wigs.
