On Friday, April 17th, 17 students from HMS' Gay-Straight Alliance will take part in the Day of Silence to raise awareness about the effects of bullying against Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) youth. Students will remain silent all day and communicate only by what they can write on a small notepad or whiteboard. Donations for Egale Canada, a registered charity that supports LGBTQ positive work in schools, will be accepted. Day of Silence is an international day of action in which students vow to take a form of silence to call attention to the silencing effect of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools. Founded in 1996, the Day of Silence has become the largest single student-led action towards creating safer schools for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. - From GLSEN (http://www.dayofsilence.org/resources/)See HMS Selfies from the GSA here: http://hms.nbed.nb.ca/gallery/hms-selfies-day-silence-gsa
