As received from public health nurse Darlene MacDonald:
"In recent weeks the issue of a new product called “Wow butter” has come to the attention of our school district. This product is promoted as a "peanut free" alternative to peanut butter and is now available in local stores. As a precaution we are requesting that schools, who are striving to be “peanut safe”, because they have students with peanut allergies, request that school staff, cafeteria staff and parents refrain from including this as a lunch/menu item in student's lunches. We are concerned that it will send confusing messages to young students and someone will inadvertently bring Peanut Butter thus putting students with allergies at risk. We are also concerned about how teachers would be able to monitor this as the product looks and smells like peanut butter. We are currently seeking direction regarding this product and its use in our schools from the Department of Education and the Department of Health. We ask your continued support regarding this."
