Dear Parents: As you know, our play will be featured in this year’s NBTA Provincial Drama Festival in Fredericton. This means that on Monday May 3rdth , we will be taking a two night trip to the provincial capital. We will return late Wednesday night (9pm). These three days will be very exciting and at the same time educational (shhh…don’t tell the kids!). We will be taking in plays, workshops, ceremonies and we will be putting on our play as well (it will be performed on Tuesday at 8:40 am in the Black Box Theatre). We will be staying on the UNB campus, however the festival takes place on St Thomas University Campus.
Costs that we need for you to cover include:
-$17 student registration
-$16.95 x 2= 33.90 for each night’s accommodations at UNB, and
-$56 dollars for 8 meals (which we will collect before leaving)
-$15 for matching Cast & Crew T-shirts
The total for the 3 day venture will be approximately $125 (plus spending money while we’re there- your discretion). Please know that students may offset these costs by selling Mother’s Day Basket tickets (half of what they sell will go towards their trip).
The registration fee ($17) is payable immediately as it is this fee that secures our spot in the performance schedule. The school has agreed to pay busing (approx $900), play registration, set materials and the many other miscellaneous costs.
Drama will be an important commitment for your child and they are expected to come to each practice. We will try to give them/you as much notice as possible when it comes to practice and pick-up times (check the Harkins Middle School Website for our link and scheduled practice times). Students are also expected to attend lunch time practices as needed. As we get closer to the festival, more rehearsal times will be added.
We are looking forward to another very successful year of drama and we are elated to have such a dynamic cast and crew. This will be an invaluable experience for your child and we thank you so very much for your support. We will be performing the play for the public at home after the festival, for your viewing pleasure.
Printed on the back of this notice is a synopsis of our play…it’s sure to be a hit!
Please call the school or send an email if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks again in advance for your interest and support!
Yours in drama,
Miss Barrieau and Ms Mercier
